We used this backpack for our 9-year-old pup (19 lbs.) to give him a "2-mile free ride" during our 17-mile hike. He seemed comfortable in it. It has several straps to really fit on my husband, so he said it was not too bad carrying his own backpack on his back and this pack in front.
